Day 30, Winona to Viroqua, 71 miles

Worst: Last nights dinner at the dorm.

Best: Stopping at the Meyers for a reception for Big Riders.

Most Unexpected: The Weather, 41 degrees cooler than last time.

Last night after my donut binge we went to the Winona State Cafeteria for dinner which was a hot dog, tube pasta with a white cream supposedly Alfredo, Canned corn, and a u-make salad. Dessert was the donut I bought previously.

We got in line this morning for another trip to the cafeteria behind a lot of football players who were attending a football camp of all things, and the breakfast was better. We then rode to the Meyers, Cousins for a Cause, who welcomed us with great food, memorabilia from previous rides, great conversation, and unfortunately cold weather.  We stayed for an hour and I once again enjoyed the gathering immensely.  I had looked forward to this for two years, and my expectations were met with the exception of Kate who decided to get married instead of waiting around for me to come back.

Because we left at 7:30 from Winona, and the hour plus at the Meyers, todays ride got us to Viroqua later than our usual times.  There was a bridge out crossing the Mississippi so we detoured up a steep, 11% grade climb for a mile to get up the hill to the Meyers, and the overall detour added 5 miles to our ride.  This was a great day for riding, and the pictures below show some of the highlights.
MIssissippi Valley ridge.
Looking back at the climb out of the valley to the Meyers.  Note that I am not last. I was actually the second person to arrive there because I knew what to expect, and couldn't wait to get there.

Where cars go to die in Wisconsin.

No this is not the Meyers,

This is the Meyers, at least some of them. The food included cupcakes, fresh fruit, Apple pie, vegetables spread on bread, and other deliciousness.
Here is Megan interviewing Terry, who will be famous as a result.

They call the town Nodine because there is no place to dine in Nodine.  This is actually true and I did not make it up.

Looking down at the Mississippi after leaving the Meyers.

We are actually all together for this picture. You are not drunk, the picture is tilted because I used the self timer and put it on a saddle of a bike which was tilted.

Worlds largest six pack.  I missed taking this picture last time because I looked to the right and took this picture instead.

Its Amish Country, and we had to wait 20 miles before we could pass safely. Meanwhile the exhaust for the vehicle kept coming out. (They turned at the stop sign just as we caught up to them)
This was our lunch stop at 60 miles.  Two years ago this water looked very inviting for swimming and several people did just that.  Today at 60 degrees nobody was thinking about it.  Again for comparison purposes, the temperature in Viroqua was 104 degrees two years ago, and it is 63 degrees today. I like today much better, and in case you wanted to know, yes we had a tailwind again.
